The committee formed to oversee cricket in the country has been given up to Friday 11th February 2022 or be sued
A disgruntled section of the Cricket Kenya Federation accuses the Amina Mohamed-created committee of non-performance.
“On 16th March 2021, in the absence of any consultation with Cricket stakeholders and an inspection of Cricket Kenya, CS Amina Mohamed irregularly purported to establish your Committee under Section 52 of the Sports Act, with a six (6) month mandate to among other things: (i) Coordinate the finalization of the Draft Constitution: and (ii) Facilitate the election of new officials as per the validated Constitution. On 15th September 2021, your irregular mandate lapsed without fulfilling the highlighted items of your mandate which fact you do not dispute”, the letter of intent to sue drafted by Lee, Kwesiga and Kiprono Advocates LLP said in part.
Summary
Among the key issues that have been raised by the letter addressed to Hon (retired) Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch are:
- The Normalization Committee has been operating without any legal mandate.
- They have been ignoring the concerns of cricket stakeholders concerning protecting the integrity of the cricket election process.
- They are not even acting in line with their own past statements concerning a cut of date for registration of counties for cricket elections.
- Former officials who have run down the game are now registering briefcase Counties so that they outnumber genuinely registered Counties.
- The Cricket Normalization is facilitating instead of stopping such irregular action.
- People are aware that some members of the Normalization Committee who have been compromised to allow for this.
- The Sports Registrar is also under scrutiny for prioritising the irregular Applications for registration over Applications that were filed years prior.
- Stakeholders have lost confidence in both offices.
Cnyakundi.com understands that the cricket normalization committee has called for elections that will take place on the 26th of February at Kasarani.
Amina Mohamed has called on all stakeholders to support the Independent Elections Panel (IEP). IEP will oversee the aforementioned Cricket Kenya polls.
However, it remains to be seen how the whole issue will pan out now that a group has threatened to sue the Kenya Cricket normalization committee.
