Kasarani residents have for the last 3 days been protesting the poor state of roads in the Jubilee stronghold.
Residents have entirely put the blame on area Member of Parliament Mercy Gakuya, whom they say is hardly ever visits her constituency as she is always busy on trips abroad.
#Kasarani vote in an incompetent Mp who has never contributed anything in parliament yet claims to be representing her constituents… The people of Kasarani you need to recall her before 2022 pic.twitter.com/ed59Z3NAMD

The greatest development a leader can give his people is better accessible roads & water. What has Mercy given us honestly?

On Wednesday, tension escalated after a convoy of heavy crowd-control machinery was seen making way into the area following word of a third consecutive demo.
So instead of sending a contractor to #Kasarani wametuma polisi. And these lorries were bought to fight NASA supporters, now they are here to fight Jubilee supporters. Revolutions do eat their children for real. pic.twitter.com/szf7RHvl9j

Police would soon engage them in running battles as they fired both teargas canisters and live ammunition. In the process, a young boy whose age is yet to be verified, lost his life. He joined the list of three others who have reportedly died since the demos began.
A government determined to harass it's citizens instead of taking care of them by providing passable roads. Miguna Miguna was right. We elected goons #Kasarani #viva pic.twitter.com/yMHGfeg8Eb

Dictator Uhuru Kenyatta could have sent repair trucks and tractors. Instead he has dispatched militarized policemen to brutally attack the citizens of #Kasarani & #Mwiki for daring ask why they pay taxes but their roads are full of potholes#IStandWithKasarani#IStandWithMwiki pic.twitter.com/VJo2GJf0lS

Welcome to Kenya republic of China…A young boy lost his life during demonstrations….Revolution eats it's own people..we must stand and say no to police brutality and extra judicial killings #Kasarani pic.twitter.com/qvpxkQSfqa

If the brutality of the police all day long has not been enough to call for attention, then the life of this boy is. It is such a country where telling a person things will get better sounds like an insult #Kasarani pic.twitter.com/1eCXVovxT4

This evening, angry residents marched to Mwiki Police Station carrying his lifeless body to demand for answers over his killing.
They, once again, responded by firing teargas to disperse the crowd.

Some thugs in the area took advantage of the commotion and went into full swing; breaking into homes and shops, making away with valuable items and injuring some civilians in the process.
Those who organized the demo, however, quickly came out to squash reports saying protesters were behind the looting, making it clear that they had issued a notice warning to those attending, urging them to maintain peace and calm during the exercise.
Anyone who is caught looting, throwing stones ir fighting with the police or breaking the law is not one of us. #Kasarani protesters are disciplined and obey the law. pic.twitter.com/N5YlSDQwlt

Majority of those asked for comment condemned MP Mercy Gakuya for having allowed the law enforcement officers to brutalize them, saying she should have intervened and listen to her people instead.
What is she doing???people are being killed in her area of duty and she cant avail hersepf to even give a statement, the audacity, smh.

Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s handshake has also not not been received very well in the area, with some saying it is founded on the same selfish ideologies the two leaders’ fathers founded the nation under.
What is happening in #Kasarani is because we are lacking an opposition govt,Raila betrayed us all he is now dining with the thieves. No one will fight 4 this ppl in #Kasarani Kenya needs revolution!!

Githeri media has been criticised for blatantly ignoring the demos that could hit day 4 tomorrow; some viewing the situation as a perfect example of how low the standards of our local press have fallen as meaningless political talk continues to dominate prime time segments.
Any media reporting what's happening in #Kasarani?
— gathara (@gathara) January 15, 2020
It’s amazing. @ntvkenya‘s report on the #Kasarani protests barely mentioned the claim of deaths and the reporter seemed uninterested in following up on it. Very reminiscent of what happened after the August 8 elections when KE media was GoK’s instrument for blacking out protests.
— gathara (@gathara) January 15, 2020
The Jubilee administration has blacked out anything to do with Kasaran….Brace! Brace! Brace

I dont sympathise with Kasarani residence, between 2013-2014, we had the worst Area Mp called John Njoroge, whose core role was grabbing, come 2017, they elected Mercy Gakuy, she has never been seen or heard in Parliament, all problem is because of tribalism

Everything has been at a standstill since morning in #Kasarani . businesses closed since Monday but wait for Prime time news and see what Githeri media reports. “The BBI divide, Ruto apinga BBI…” as if the common man cares about BBI! #Kasarani
— JK (@Nyigi_) January 15, 2020
As they scampered for safety to avoid the wrath of teargas the constituents couldn’t believe that the same administration they defended with their lives was back to end theirs.
This is how other netizens reacted to the story.
Painful to see the pictures of bullet-ridden bodies of young people, whose only sin is to peacefully protest against bad roads. You cannot talk of building bridges when you murder the youth and you extinguish their future. #StandUp4HumanRights #Kasarani @AmnestyKenya @thekhrc

What is happening in #Kasarani is totally unacceptable. Why should anyone die just for protesting for better roads which is their right in the first place?!! @PoliceKE these needless deaths are on you.

#Kasarani was one of the Jubilee Strong Holds in the General elections. The same people they put in Power are now using government machinery against them. When James Orengo Said The Government eats its own people and will punish you more, this sadly, is exactly what he meant. 😩
