Tanzanian internet sensation Pierre Liquid visited the Parliament on Wednesday afternoon and held talks with the speaker of the national Assembly, Prime Minister and MPs.
Pierre who owns a furniture workshop in one of Dar es Salaam’s suburbs of Keko in Temeke District became the internet’s favourite entertainer after his drunk videos went viral on social media.
Ever since the first video racked up unbelievable views on Instagram, he quickly rose to fame and gained a celebrity status faster that anyone could have imagined. Winning lovers from all parts of East Africa.
It remains difficult to describe Mr. Liquid. Some say he is an artiste while others simply call him a drunkard, a tag that he says he dislikes.
“Mimi sio mlevi, mimi ni mnyuaji,” is one of his most popular quotes.
Those close to him say he charges a Seven-digit appearance fee to go to some gigs in the city and ever since his first video went viral, he has rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest celebrities in the region. Tanzania’s Vice President even gave him an honourary mention at the State House.
Pierre’s love and support for the Tanzanian national football team Taifa Stars has been identified as one of the main crowd pullers at the National Stadium 10 days ago when the country qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
On Wednesday, Tanzania’s speaker Job Ndugai invited him to the parliament in Dodoma where he was afforded a celebrity welcome.
The Prime Minister and members of parliament from both divides took turns in taking photos with the little man outside the parliament buildings.
